Hello Security Token Market Family, we are back for our third-ever monthly market report. If you missed the January or February market reports, make sure to check it out!
With an increase of almost 70% in volume compared to January, February 2020 indicated we are moving in the right direction, but how did March play out? Did the Coronavirus and subsequent economic dip lead to a volatile month, or are security tokens an alternative investment opportunity to hedge risk against the major indexes? Nothing is for certain, but as each month goes by, we continue to gather valuable insights to make conclusions.
In the month of March, we added four new security tokens with live trading data updated hourly to our platform via API. Three of them were real estate properties issued by RealT and the fourth was the tokenized equity of Mt. Pelerin, an asset tokenization platform based out of Switzerland. Mt. Pelerin is our first-ever international security token to be appended to our platform. Due to a lack of trading data prior to the end of March, Mt Pelerin will be inaugurated in the April 2020 market report after its first complete month of trading.

SEC: Last June, the SEC reached out to the public for feedback on the current private securities exemptions. After much review and consideration, the SEC responded with their proposed amendments based on the public commentary, and we are happy to say the SEC employed our recommendation on increasing the Regulation Crowdfunding hard cap from $1.07M to $5M!
Highlights from the proposed changes:
- Increase the Reg CF hard cap from $1.07M to $5M
- Increase the Tier 2 Reg A hard cap from $50M to $75M
- Ability to “Test-the-Waters” prior to launching a private offering to see which exemption is most appropriate for the issuer
Morningstar/Fatburger: Morningstar, the global financial services giant, rated its first-ever Ethereum based security in a Fatburger $40M deal
"While the investment in Fatburger parent company Fat Brands (Nasdaq: FAT) isn’t huge in terms of total dollars, the firm that structured the investment has several more projects in the pipeline, with the goal of raising a total of $500 million by the end of 2020, in a total debt securities market estimated to be $117 trillion."
Algorand/The Marshall Islands: Algorand, an open-source blockchain-solution provider, is helping the Republic of the Marshall Islands transition their national currency to a digital currency based on the Algorand blockchain to be used as their legal tender. The implementation will curb 'runaway' inflation due to the currency having a fixed supply increasing by 4% each year.
