Security token and blockchain adoption are moving at supersonic levels. Just 12 months ago, if you told us that Nasdaq, the 2nd largest exchange in the world and Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation, the largest clearinghouse in the world, would both be leveraging blockchain for their operations in 2020, I might not have believed you. Well, we’re happy to confirm that both of these things happened in May. I have always said when the incumbents get on-board, it will signify we are moving in the right direction and that's exactly what we are witnessing.
This month, our Head of Marketing Jonah Schulman, released a report showing the correlation between security tokens and the US equity markets. Interestingly enough, he found that the average security token return by asset in the Month of April was 8.99% — an impressive return compared to the US equity markets. Unfortunately, in May, we did not see the same results. The average security token return by asset was -0.90%. However, this did not halt the growth of the aggregate security token market cap or trading volume as we witnessed a growth of more than 5% and 135%, respectively. This growth was mainly attributed to tZERO's preferred equity shares — TZROP that holds the majority market share — being up 17.12% and it's trading volume being up more than 200%.
In other news, we have a tight competition between OpenFinance Network and tZERO for market cap leader. Last month, for the first time since January, OFN took the lead for market cap. This was surprising because of their recent announcement to delist assets. Fortunately in May, the company has confirmed trading will commence for all assets. Even with OFN’s uncertainty, the two marketplaces have been going back and forth for market cap leader and it will be exciting to watch in the second half of 2020.

In the month of May, we added Overstock.com’s ‘digital dividend’ (security token) with live-trading updated hourly via API integration to our platform! This security token is a digital representation of Overstock.com's public stock, $OSTK, currently trading on NASDAQ. The token uses the ticker $OSTKO. tZERO now has two live-trading security tokens.
